What My 11 Year Old Teaches Us About Healing

My 11-year old son taught me a life lesson that I believe will forever be buried in my memory. Today, I want to share it with you.
On Mother's Day weekend, he had eye surgery to correct muscles that caused his eyes to cross- something he's quietly lived with since he was a little boy. We tried everything else first. Patching. Time. Hoping it would fix itself.
But a stye turned into a cyst a couple of months ago, and that became the turning point. The specialists gave us two options and I wanted to try the less intrusive one first, but from the very beginning Tyler insisted on having the surgery that I was so badly trying to avoid.
I expected fear. He gave me faith.
What struck me most wasn't just his bravery...but his willingness to do the harder thing for the sake of healing. And it made me think...
How often do we do the same thing I wanted to do? Patch things. Delay surrender. Settle for surface-level peace instead of allowing God to do the deeper work...especially when that work feels scary or painful.
Bite Sized Wisdom: Healing doesn't always take the path of least resistance. Sometimes it takes courage, surrender, and a little faith.
Because of Tyler's faith, he walked out of surgery with new eyes and I couldn't be more thankful for the lessons he taught me through this process.

The longer I live, the more I learn that our children can sometimes teach us more than we give them credit for. It's amazing what they reveal to us when we slow down and reflect.
A Challenge for You:
Is there something in your life you've been patching- hoping it'll heal on its own? This week, ask God to show you what deeper work He might be inviting you into. It may not be the easiest route...but it just might be the most freeing.
